PRESS RELEASE

Hellenic Bank preserves its technological lead by introducing a new digital channel, the API Banking.

With the consumer behavior being shifted towards online apps and digital channels for performing day-to-day activities, the opportunity for revolutionizing the experience of everyday banking arose.

Numerous FinTech (Financial Technology) companies on the international stage started developing services that offer their customers and businesses new ways for banking, with enhanced customer experience and value added benefits.

With such innovations taking place worldwide and following the technology trends in the banking industry, Hellenic Bank is stepping ahead and is pioneering once again! Our aim through API Banking is to create an open platform and provide banking services as a platform (Banking as a Service – BaaS). At the same time, through API Banking Hellenic Bank becomes the first PSD2-ready bank in Cyprus, one year ahead of the 2018 deadline.

API Banking is offered through specialized Open APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and acts as a messenger between systems and provides a seamless, real time communication between different applications. Transparency and flexibility characterizes the APIs, while standards that were applied allow immediate and easy online access.

Hellenic Bank developed and provides the following APIs:

  • Authentication
  • Single Payments
  • Single Payments in Rubles
  • Mass Payments
  • Mass Payments in Rubles
  • Account Reporting

What is important is that API Banking is to be available through a dedicated microsite, openapis.hellenicbank.com via which developers and other interested parties worldwide will have the opportunity to:

  • Discover our Open APIs, finding out how it works using the detailed documentation that is readily available without having to contact anyone at the bank.
  • Experiment in a dedicated Sandbox environment we offer, by building their applications, testing and verifying that their applications run smoothly.
  • Go Live! Launch their applications in the real, live environment and be ready to use the banking services to make payments and view real account reporting, following an approval procedure by the bank.

Through this innovation Hellenic Bank is to broaden its network and promote new collaborations with software developers, start-ups and FinTech companies. We are looking forward into widening our networks and foster new relationships. We are looking forward into emerging partnerships with the developer communities and businesses, strengthening and growing further our business model, while accelerating the co-creation of new innovative products and services.
