Hellenic Bank Group achieves certification for energy management system

Hellenic Bank Group excels in achieving certification for its Energy Management System under the International Standard ISO 50001:2011.

With responsible corporate behavior being an integral part of its philosophy and culture and through consistent and tireless efforts in energy management issues, Hellenic Bank succeeded in obtaining certification to the International Standard of ISO 50001.

The certification to the International Standard of ISO 50001 ensures a commitment to the effective and efficient use of energy. The System is implemented across the entire Hellenic Bank Group and its success depends to a great extent on the awareness, contribution and involvement of all staff. It is applicable to all services and buildings, irrespective of size or sector of activity, providing a systematic approach towards the continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption. The continued implementation of rational and prudent energy management provides significant benefits, such as reducing energy cost, promoting energy management best practices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Following the actions taken during the last three years, Hellenic Bank pursued in 2014 further energy saving measures contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Since 2012, Hellenic Bank Group has achieved to reduce electricity consumption in Kwh per square meter by about 26%, while drastically reducing the related cost by approximately 37%. Moreover, within the framework of this action plan in cooperation with the CYMEPA environmental organisation, 17 buildings/branches of the Group have been certified as Green Offices in the last two years, while the Head Office building was awarded the Green Key eco label. In addition, Hellenic Bank’s efforts in Energy Management were acknowledged by the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, which in its 3rd National Energy Efficiency Action Plan made special mention to the energy policy of Hellenic Bank setting out its efforts as an example to be followed.

This new development of certification to the International Standard of ISO 50001 commits and assists Hellenic Bank to the continuous improvement of its energy performance and its carbon footprint, through the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
