Government workers rise to post-crisis peak in Q3

The number of workers paid by the public rose 3.9 per cent, to 65,809 in Q3, compared to the respective quarter last year, the highest Q3 since 2013, the statistical service said.

The increase in July to September was mainly on a 4.6 per cent rise in the number of central government staffers, including non-profit bodies, to 55,518, Cystat said in a statement on its website on Tuesday. Local authorities reduced their staff 0.5 per cent, to 4,262.

The number of workers at government-controlled enterprises and other entities rose an annual 0.8 per cent, to 6,029, Cystat said.
