Jobless number drops to 23k, post crisis low

The number of registered unemployed fell last month by 2,064, to 22,839, which is the lowest figure since October 2010, the statistical service said.

The number of jobless people dropped in May by 474, to a seasonally adjusted 27,268, which is the lowest since April 2011, Cystat said in a statement on Tuesday.

The overall number of jobless fell in May by 7,083, or 24 per cent year-on-year, mainly on a decline in the number of unemployed in trade by 1,262, followed by 958 in construction, Cystat said. In hotels and restaurants, the number of jobless fell by 896. In public administration by 763, in manufacturing by 641, and in financial services by 347. The number of unemployed newcomers fell by 917.

On Thursday, Eurostat said that the unemployment rate in Cyprus had fallen to 8.6 per cent in April, from 9 per cent in March, and 11.7 per cent in April 2017.

    It’s all fake news. The numbers of unemployed are *huge* but they are cleverly disguised by having them pass brown envelopes to one another (or so the turco-trolls would have us believe ;^)
